The Sussex offense knocked around Tornadoes starter Matt Giusti for 10 runs, and beat up on Worcester 14-7. Tied at two, the Skyhawks scored three in the top of the fourth inning, keyed by a two-run double by SS Joe Persichina, and rallied for six more in the following inning. From there, two Sussex relievers were able to back up starter Tim Stringer and hold off the Worcester offense. CF Carl Loadenthal again played a large role in the Sussex win, tallying two hits and knocking in four runs.
Quebec 3, Pittsfield 1
Capitales starter Dan Sausville pitched seven innings of one-run baseball and beat Pittsfield 3-1 in Quebec’s eighth straight win. Sausville earned his second win of the season and reliever Mathew Rusch threw two perfect innings to earn his first save. In the top of the fifth inning, Quebec LF Alex Nunez knocked in two unearned runs on a single and DH Jeremy Hunt scored in the sixth on a wild pitch to account for Quebec’s three runs. Pittsfield starter Matt White took the loss despite not giving up an earned run in five innings of work; he has not surrendered an earned run yet this season.
New Jersey 5, Brockton 4
In a roller coaster of a game, Brockton’s ninth inning rally came up short, as New Jersey held on to win 5-4. The Jackals got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth when they scored two, before the Rox answered with two of their own in the top of the sixth. Each team scored one in the seventh, and the Jackals took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth. Brockton scored one of the two runs it needed in the top of the ninth before New Jersey reliever Romas Hicks shut the door to earn his fourth save of the season. Jackals C Jordan Newton led the charge offensively with two hits and three RBI. In the loss, Brockton RF Keith Brachold stayed hot with four hits, and four knocked in.
