Worcester built a big lead then withstood a furious ninth inning rally to top The American Defenders of New Hampshire 9-8. The Tornadoes scored four runs in the third inning and added five more in the middle frames to hold a 9-1 lead over heading into the ninth. But New Hampshire scored five times off Worcester’s Jusef Frias, including a grand slam by 3B Chris Kelly, and was in position to do more damage when they loaded the bases again with just one out. A throwing error plated two runs but the tying run was cut down at home plate. Tornadoes closer Anthony Sullivan got a groundout from the next batter to end the game. DH Nick Salotti and LF Carlos Sosa combined for four hits and five RBI for Worcester. RF Heath Keel went 3-for-4 for the Tornadoes.
