DURHAM, NC – The Can-Am League announced today that the contract of Sussex Skyhawks 1B Matt Weston has been sold to the Houston Astros. Weston will report to High A Lancaster in the California League.

In five games for the Skyhawks in 2009, Weston was batting .391 with nine hits, four runs scored and three runs batted in. The Chino Hills, CA resident was in his second season with the Skyhawks. Last season, Weston batted .299 with 22 home runs, 60 RBI, 106 hits and 69 runs scored. He finished second in home runs and fifth in total bases and extra-base hits.

The 25-year-old was a 12th round selection of the San Francisco Giants in the 2006 MLB draft. He played in 2006 with Salem-Keizer and in 2007 with Augusta before joining Sussex last season.
