Brockton, MA (May 8, 2009) – On Thursday, May 7th, Major League Baseball suspended Manny Ramirez for 50 games for testing positive for a banned substance. Reports indicate that the banned substance is a female fertility drug called “Human Chorionic Gonadotropin” or “hCG.” Ramirez issued a statement explaining that a physician prescribed the medication to him for a personal health issue, and the Brockton Rox are ready to offer some comfort and support.

“Everyone is jumping to conclusions and talking about steroids; especially here in ‘Red Sox Nation’,” said Rox Promotions Director Bailey Frye. “Manny clearly has a personal health issue he is dealing with, and we are here to offer support.”

The “support” the Rox are offering will come in the form of 50 “Mann-ssieres,” – one for every day of his suspension – to the first 50 ladies through the gates on the Rox July 6th game presented by Foley’s Backstreet Grille. The organization will also be offering Manny-cures, dreadlock treatments, and information on fertility treatments to all ladies in attendance. As an added bonus, fans who turn in any Manny paraphernalia will receive a free ticket in the “Mannywood” section of the park that night.

The fertility drug Ramirez used is known to cause side effects such as fatigue, bloating, problems with vision, and mood swings, among others.

“It was surprising to find out that Manny was taking a fertility drug,” said Rox Manager Chris Carminucci, “but the side effects make sense. Fatigue would lead to dogging it on the bases. The baggy jersey hides the bloating. Vision problems would explain the misplayed balls and the inexplicable cutoffs; his mood swings…it all adds up,” Carminucci concluded.

While the Rox do plan to give away 50 of the special Mann-ssieres in honor of “Manny being Mammary,” one will be kept on hold in the event that Alex Rodriguez shows up for the night’s festivities. Recent revelations suggest he may be in need of some support as well.

The Brockton Rox open the 2009 season on Thursday, May 28th against the defending Can-Am League champion Sussex Skyhawks. Opening night is presented by CVS/pharmacy and the first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Season tickets, mini-plans, flex packs, and group outings are available now through the Rox front office at (508) 559-7000.
