The Skyhawks has re-signed yet another member of their 2008 championship club; relief pitcher, Matt Petrusek.
Petrusek was a key cog in last year’s championship run. Petrusek appeared in 36 games, compiling a 5-2 record with a slim 1.79 ERA with a team and league leading 24 saves. The Tinley Park, Illinois native also struck out 57 batters in only 54 and 1/3 innings, allowing just one home run over that span.
For the week ending June 8th, 2008 Petrusek was named “Pitcher of the Week”. During his named week, he appeared in four games, earning his first win of the season and collecting three saves while allowing no earned runs on only five hits.
After attending Lewis University, Petrusek played for the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League, where he appeared in 41 games for 52 innings. Matt has also played for the Sioux Falls of the American Association. In 2007, he was fifth in the league for saves with 11, games finished with 34 and relief points at 33.
Skyhawks open their home season on June 1, 2009. For up-to-date information on the Skyhawks, log onto www.sussexskyhawks.com.
